Ten Years Ago

Ten years ago this month, my father passed away. He was 84 years old, and as many elderly do, he died of starvation. Starvation in so many ways. He was fond of saying that he hoped when the atomic bomb was dropped, they'd let us know a little ahead of time so that he could go out and watch!

He left this world before it happened -- so...

I Kill

I Kill
I kicked the dog for dying
And beat a horse to death
I choked a cat for clawing
And never lost a breath
I made a mess of everything
I never felt the hornet’s sting
Wanting all to cry and sing
Of how I care for not a thing

Strangers saw my glaring smile
Friends not friends all the while
With deceit and cruelty
In hopes of bits of gravity
No one sees me
No one knows
Why I kill
Or who

Slashing smashing crushing
Slithering sliding skulking
Scolding scathing smirking
Snakes covering
I kill
I kill
I kill
